This is the first episode of the BMT (Business Minds Thinking) Series. Episode 1 features the mega successful, yet very low key artist KAWS.
In the BMT series, the objective is to have a conversation based on the same 3 questions with various people who are successful in their field. The goal is to reveal that behind every success…there is a business mind thinking!
I’ve spent most of today reflecting on the last 24 hours of my life. It felt as if I had just walked through a portal to a different reality. What I found to be the most strange was my extreme comfortableness in this new realm. And then it hit me, my outside world was starting to resemble my inside world. (more…)
It’s not too late if you’re in the New York City area & want to catch my one night only preview speaking performance. I was told we have about 20 seats left. WOW…and this is only the beginning!!!
I know this might not be the politically correct thing to say, but…LIFE ISN’T FAIR AND IT’S BEST TOGET OVER IT!!!
It is impossible for all things to be equal. I think it’s quite unfair for one to even think life is suppose to be equally fair. In order to have winners, you must have losers. You can’t have pretty unless there is ugly. There can’t be a “Mr. All That” without a “Mr. All Wack”.
So I ask you (in all fairness), are the lazy equally as deserving as the ambitious? Should the ignorant have the same as the intelligent? Are the least selling entitled to be compensated the same as the top selling?
Be sure to keep this thought in mind, defining yourself allows you to determine what’s fair to you.
With a question like that, your mind should be flooded with all types of possibilities. But before you get totally lost in the land of infinite possibilities, keep in mind this little life lesson that I’ve come to know in a very big way…if there’s no possibility of failure, then the victory is meaningless!!!
Recently I was giving a good friend of mine some advice who seemed to have lost his focus in life. That conversation (as most do that I’m in) produced yet another “genius in the moment” moment that I would like to share…
You have to stop getting caught up with what other people are doing and stay focused on your lane in life. Just look at life as if it’s a bowling alley. It’s better to roll a gutter ball in your lane than a strike in someone else’s!
This is really how I talk in everyday conversations!!!
As I was getting caught up in the pure joy of my new iPod touch, this thought came to me…
In a world of what seems to have daily technological advancements, what do you think has been the greatest breakthrough that has impacted your life for the better and now you just can’t imagine life without it? Equally, which breakthrough do you think is a total waste of time?
One thing that will always be true about time is that it waits for no man. It’s the only thing that we all have the same amount of everyday. The only difference is what we individually choose to do with it. Those who achieve any type of success always know the true value of their time.
So remember this little thought nugget my fellow thinkers…the longest job to finish is the job never started!
This message takes me back to when I first started writing my first book over four years ago. I remember looking out my window in deep thought on what to do with the rest of my life. I came to the conclusion that I was going to be in front of people utilizing my innate ablility to get people to think.
Many people told me that I was setting myself up for failure because the masses don’t want to think…they just want to be told what to do. Obviously I’m not in agreement. I sincerely think the masses are MORE conditioned not to think, so my new mission in life became to spark all the dormant thinkers of the world. I made that decision with the deep belief that I couldn’t be the only one who had grown tired of the “sugar water” mind sets that has become so status quo.
It’s the moments like these which make all the sacrifices worth it to me!!!
And before I end up getting all emotional, I’m going to end by saying to all…Thank You And You’re Welcome!
We are always the greatest obstacle to ourselves in not getting what we want out of life. Once you’re able to master yourself, the possibilities will seem endless.
This past Sunday, I took my daughters to Hot 97’s Summer Jam 08. As I sit here in a moment of reflection, the quote by Sigmund Freud pretty much sums up my experience…”I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection”.
Like Kanye and I said in ”Thank You And You’re Welcome”…
If you know you’re the best, it only makes sense for you to surround yourself with the best. NO EXCEPTIONS!
I couldn’t think of a better way to congratulate my friend, co-writer and business partner on being honored as the #1 Hottest MC In The Game as reported at MTV.com!!!
I wish I would’ve come up with that quote by John C. Maxwell. It made me think how I’m never satisfied when told something is good. I believe good is the enemy of great.
This was a response to a recent statement I made that “Great minds don’t think alike, they think for themselves.”
“It’s true that people, generally, do not think alike, but if you are trained logically, there is tendency that you will think alike because you are faced with facts. Oh! The other philosophy; “They think for themselves”. This is obnoxious. Anyone who thinks for his or herself alone is selfish, and has nothing positive to contribute to human race.”
Wow! First let me say that most “facts” have the common flaw of being limited to the person’s perspective who’s presenting them. So, please get as much information possible in order to make the best decision for yourself. I’m sure no one would take issue with that…right?
And secondly, I wonder why anyone would think it’s defined as obnoxious when you’re not necessarily influenced by others…and because of so, you’re not capable of making a positive contribution to the human race?
I feel it’s my strong independent thinking which has created mutiple opportunities for me to help others. I’m quite confident with a cookie cutter mindset, I wouldn’t have been able to have a positive impact when speaking to Bronx High School students (especially when I’m not an athlete or entertainer) or even have the gull to write a book that inspired a reader to reconnect with their father.
Regardless of how wrong or right, I love when what I think sparks others to think…so keep the feedback coming!!!
There are times in life when you just have to go for it and dare to be you. Only time can reveal if you had the talent, skill and discipline to conquer what was so obviously unnecessary to everyone else.
OK, I must admit that I laughed for about 5 minutes straight when I first saw this picture.  Once I regained my composure, I was actually inspired by it.Â
It made me think about how a true friend will use their strength to support a friend. And by doing so, the friend who receives the support is made to feel strong themselves. Wow, it’s funny how we can be inspired by the strangest things!
Or does that big guy just have some control issues?
(NOTE: This picture was not done in photoshop which makes it so much more funny!)
Having fun shouldn’t stop when you become an adult. One should maintain their childhood while accepting responsibility…and a secret to having fun is staying in the moment!
It’s the age old question, is a person more a product of their nature or their nurturing? I’ve come to the conclusion that people are more a product of their nature.
I believe this to be true because who we are begins with our nature and it’s the individual’s nature that dictates the response to the nurturing.
For most of my life, I have always had to defend my process of doing things. I’m a person who thrives in doing things my way and has never set out to do things just like everyone else. Fortunately for me, I never bought into not doing something just because no one else was doing it. I find this is a great way to continually challenge myself to become better at any and everything I do.
I say that to say…don’t get side tracked by focusing on the WHAT of an action.
The real power is found in the WHY of an action. So many situations in life could or would be avoided if you were to begin to seek out the true intent of actions instead of merely focusing on the content.
Although this perspective may not always be the easiest to grasp, it has the greatest potential of being the most worthwhile.
If you can stlil udnesrtnad waht you are raednig rgiht now, deos is tkae aawy from the msesgae taht one shuold seacrh for intnet oevr contnet in actoins?
I wonder if this was done by the surviving spouse to express her infinite love? Or was this done by some freaky bastard who just wanted an adoring naked woman over him forever ever…ever…ever?!
In any case, I do know it’s the best looking tombstone that I’ve ever seen!
I want to direct this message to all those who desire to make a living doing it their own way. First let me say that I’m all for being in a category of one. All those who know me will agree that I have no problem with the spotlight being on me. When you’re attempting to do it your own way, I believe it’s your responsibility to stand out from the crowd. If not, how else would you get noticed?
However, don’t get too caught up in being so unique that you no longer have a use. It’s equally and/or more YOUR responsibility to present yourself in a manner which you can be used.
One of the most influential college tours to date, Break into the Music, will return to North Carolina Central University for its third annual conference on April 9, 2008.
I will have the honor of speaking on a panel discussing the works of W.E.B. Dubois’ theory of the Talented Tenth. This is a town hall discussion with some of the most influential people in Entertainment, Politics, Education, and Religion that also will be discussing other key issues affecting America today.
If you’re in the area, join me and others at the B.N. Duke Auditorium from 4:40pm to 5:00pm.
When you approach a situation with a flexible mindset, it will…uhmm…I can’t front. I really don’t have anything thought provoking to say about this picture. When I saw it, I simply thought…now that’s the kind of flexiblity in life that’s sure to make a good wife!
There are times when things won’t turn out quite like you originally planned. I believe if you face it as it is, stay true to the moment, it will greatly increase your chances to learn from it.
I did this art piece to reflect how I see the world in regards of getting my ideas out. Throughout my journey, I’ve always faced a faceless opposition to me being me.  I define faceless opposition as those who will bring opposing energy into your life (whether it be family, friends, or colleagues) but are never bold enough to do it upfront. This was my way of acknowledging that energy source which I think is a great way to prevent getting caught up in it.
I’ve learned the best advice is given when the person asks what you’re attempting to do BEFORE they give it. It has never made sense to me when someone would just give advice without first inquiring about your wants. That makes about as much sense as someone giving you directions without them knowing where you’re heading.
This piece was done about three years ago. I wanted to create an artistic expression that represented how my heart is torn due to sacrifices made while reaching towards my destiny.  Unfortunatley there is no way around it. It’s just a part of the journey that one has to learn how to endure. Â
Although those who seek greatness suffer greatly…know that the greater the difficulty, the greater the joy is in conquering it.
The concept for this page came to me during a career day presentation at a middle school in New Jersey. In the mist of the Q & A session, I found myself fascinated with the motivational posters above the chalk boards. They actually motivated me to create my own version of what could be in every class or locker room in the world. >>> (more…)
I think this is a great example of the power of perspective and why it’s important to make the necessary efforts to see things as they truly are. This really applies in regards to dealing with the media. We are constantly being hammered with the extremely limited perspectives of others. (more…)
This was one of the early concepts for “Thank You And You’re Welcome.” Kanye and I first wanted to include some illustrations to emphasize some of our theories. In hindsight, I’m glad we didn’t because it made us focus on using words that would have the most impact…especially since we didn’t want to write that much! (more…)
