A jealous lover who blinded a woman with acid is also to be blinded with acid under the country’s Islamic law.

A 27-year-old named only as Majid confessed to attacking Amenah Bahrami in 2004 to dissuade anyone from marrying the woman he loved.

Wednesday’s ruling was issued based on the Islamic law system of ‘qisas,’ or eye for an eye retribution.  The reports say Ameneh asked the court to sentence Majid, who was only identified by his first name, to be blinded by acid to prevent similar attacks on other women.

Majid is allowed to appeal the verdict.

the most important thing in your life

TheThinkMovement.com

What you think means more than anything else in your life.  More than what you earn, more than where you live, more than anything that you might have or lost, and certainly more than what anyone else may think of you…simply because what you think will determine them all.

The entrepreneur in us sees opportunities everywhere we look, but many people see only problems everywhere they look. The entrepreneur in us is more concerned with discriminating between opportunities than he or she is with failing to see the opportunities.

an insight on who said what

Who voted Yes on “Prop 8″ is clear now, as exit polls show 70% of blacks, (with black women at 74%) voted for the amendment.  That’s about 20 points higher than any other racial group.  But the blame needs to be put into perspective – blacks represent only 6.2% of California’s population and they were about 10% of those who voted.

some real fly art

Friday, November 7th, 2008

This fly drawing device by artist David Bowen produces drawings based on the subtle movements of houseflies.  When flies enter a small chamber sensors detect their movements.  A micro-controller articulates a drawing arm in real time based on the fly’s movements.  When a fly is no longer detected in the chamber the paper scrolls over and the device waits until a new fly enters the chamber to begin another drawing.

I think this really expands the idea of what is art.

now that all the votes have been counted…

…and America’s Politics has embraced a change, the only question now is…what now?

First let me say that I’m not blown away, in a state of shock or surprised about Obama’s victory. And this is in no way an attempt to take away from Obama’s moment. It is just for me that I would’ve been in a more state of disbelief if he didn’t win.  I’ve always held a sincere belief that the thinking man will always prevail.

With an understanding that any success is a process and not a step, I was overwhelmed as I reflected on everything that has taken place for me to even have the luxury of having that thought.  I have such a greater appreciation for my mother who always seem to take part of any movement of change in her day.  Although we didn’t always agree in the moment, I can’t help but to believe that her efforts have been some what validated and I’m proud to celebrate this moment in her honor.

The one facet that I’m looking forward to seeing the most in the next 3-5 years is how will the masses respond, especially in the urban communities, now that the excuse of “what can’t be done” has totally been annihilated.  Hopefully there will never again be a time where there is such a wide acceptance of lowered expectations.

I would like to end with the following words by Rickey Bobby that best sums up the moment…”what does that do, does it blow your mind…THAT JUST HAPPEN!

Moller International have predicted a flying car named The ‘Autovolantor’ could be reality within two years.  It is based on a Ferrari 599 GTB.

The car is expected to be able to do 100mph on the ground and 150mph in the air. The calculated airborne range is 75 miles and ground range is 150 miles.

Designer Bruce Calkins says the car features a specially designed hybrid fuel and electric system to power the thrusters, creating as much as 800 horse power.  He believes it will be able to fly at altitudes of up to 5,000ft.

Estimated cost of having this puppy parked on your rooftop is around $641K!!!

dare to compare

Life can/will put it’s pressure on you at any given moment.  Unfortunately, most people develop a negative thought association to pressure.  For me, pressure is a positive because it means it’s a moment of transformation.  Now stress I don’t like because stress causes things to break.

One key point to remember in your pressure moments is to be very mindful of what you’re comparing the moment to.   Although it can always be better…it can always also be worse!  That perspective is all up to you.

black middle-class comes into view

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Since Obama’s candidacy, African-American professionals once invisible in mainstream America, are moving from prime-time fiction to everyday fact.

By Gloria Goodale | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor
from the October 31, 2008 edition

Whittier, Calif. – These tidy streets of well-manicured lawns and hedges gracing modest, but well-appointed California-style bungalow homes are Richard Nixon country, home to his alma mater and next door to his birth and burial place, Yorba Linda.

This has long been a bastion of conservative, white American Republicanism, says resident Lonnie Jordan, an African-American musician who lives in the Friendly Hills district of town. Married to a mixed-race wife whose mother was white and father black, Mr. Jordan says this was not always a comfortable place for a mixed-race couple. But, that has begun to change, he adds. The reason? The presidential aspirations of candidate Barack Obama.

“He’s put the image of black families on the national dialogue,” says Jordan. “Now I walk around and I don’t feel odd or out of place. It’s come out of the shadows and into the everyday light.” (more…)
