I found this article by Jeremy Stangroom very intriguing and wanted to share.

Okay, so here’s a thing.

Suppose an 18 year old fella takes some photographs of his 17 year old girlfriend in various states of undress.  Not pornographic, but not artistic (so we’re talking mild readers wives type stuff).  She is not coerced in any way, has no objections to him possessing the photographs, and he will never show them to anybody else.

They split up a few years later.  She’s happy for him to keep the photographs. Fast forward 25 years. He still possesses the photographs.  He’s now in his mid-40s, and he hasn’t been in touch with his old girlfriend for some 20 years, so he has no idea whether she’d mind that he still has the photos (of course, he recognises that she might mind).

The villagers, seeing that there were loads of monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them left and right.  The man bought thousands at $10 and, as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort.

A British design company have launched a new product to help children concentrate at school…pre-chewed pencils.

The company, called Concentrate, says the pencils look like they have already been chewed making pupils less likely to put them in their mouths.

And they say this is a cheap but effective way of encouraging youngsters to get their teeth into their lessons instead.

Concentrate specialises in products to help kids at school and identify why they get distracted or are unable to focus in class, claim the chewed end encourages them to get thinking straight away.

Many scientists assume people have sex for simple and straightforward reasons such as to experience sexual pleasure or to reproduce, but new research at The University of Texas at Austin reveals hundreds of varied and complex motivations that range from the spiritual to the vengeful.

After conducting one of the most comprehensive studies on why people have sex, psychology researchers David Buss and Cindy Meston uncovered 237 motivations, which appear in the August issue of Archives of Sexual Behavior. (more…)

I can grasp how people come to find their talents like drawing, sports, music, cooking or even mechanics.  But what was going on for someone to initially say to themselves…”you know what, I think I’m going to try to twist my body in the most unnatural way possible!!!”

I wonder if a significant other was involved?

This picture invokes many unanswered questions…don’t you think???!!!

I’m cool with being considered uncool for not understanding the point of this.

These may look like photographs, but these amazing pictures are the creation of the Spanish artist Juan Francisco Casas, who creates his large artworks by using just a blue ballpoint pen.  He uses up to four 14p ballpoints on one picture, and his works are already a sell-out at exhibitions. This “The Thinker’s Thoughts” is inspired by a recent conversation with Kanye. With all the backlash that he’s receiving from just expressing his opinion, I thought this was a great time for me to throw my own into the mix.  This is not an attempt to come to his defense, but more me offering my perspective for consideration.  I fear the opposing side not having any competition.

First, what is the root cause for the backlash?  Is it over WHAT is being said or WHY is it being said?  It’s seems that his intent is often lost over the content.  I’m a firm believer in intent over content.  I know it’s the only thing that can truly define an action.  I find that the most accurate response to something begins with a clear understanding of why it was done.

For example, if someone was to suddenly push you to the ground, the best response is to ask…”why did you push me?”  Now I’m not saying that you have to be smiling from ear to ear when you ask, but that question should still be first.  Their answer should/will have the biggest impact on what’s the most appropriate thing for you to do next.

Scenario 1, they said their reason was to prevent you from getting hit by a bus.  Most likely your reaction would be to hug them while offering many thanks.

Scenario 2, they said their reason was some explanation that boiled down to them just hating on your outfit.  Never one to promote violence, yet I can understand why a quick kung fu chop to the neck region would be somewhat appropriate in this case.

Think about it…same push but different response.  That’s what I call the power of intent!!!

So after all that, what’s Kanye’s intent? I’m not qualified to say for certain, but I think it’s very similar to my own…to help others with original, ground-breaking, innovative artistic expressions while never losing a strong sense of self in the process.  One aspect of doing this is being bold enough to go beyond what’s accepted as “the norm”.  I’ve come to understand that being possibly misunderstood or even rejected at first is something that’s just part of this journey.

When the prime objective is the preservation of “the norm”, my thought process is generally at conflict.  One way that I cope is by not being too dependent upon, or too closely involved with what’s considered “the norm”.  And I don’t think this makes me any better or worse than anyone…it just makes me, ME!  Unfortunately the masses are conditioned to initially reject individual expressions of self…regardless of the intent.

This is just my opinion.  And I know that the best thing about an opinion is everybody has a right to one…regardless of how wrong they are!!!

A 27-year-old named only as Majid confessed to attacking Amenah Bahrami in 2004 to dissuade anyone from marrying the woman he loved.

Wednesday’s ruling was issued based on the Islamic law system of ‘qisas,’ or eye for an eye retribution.  The reports say Ameneh asked the court to sentence Majid, who was only identified by his first name, to be blinded by acid to prevent similar attacks on other women.

Majid is allowed to appeal the verdict.

It was really made clear to me why I like Obama so much after reading this quote by Peter F. Drucker…“The entrepreneur always searches for change, responds to it, and exploits it as an opportunity.â€�

What you think means more than anything else in your life.  More than what you earn, more than where you live, more than anything that you might have or lost, and certainly more than what anyone else may think of you…simply because what you think will determine them all.

The entrepreneur in us sees opportunities everywhere we look, but many people see only problems everywhere they look. The entrepreneur in us is more concerned with discriminating between opportunities than he or she is with failing to see the opportunities.

This fly drawing device by artist David Bowen produces drawings based on the subtle movements of houseflies.  When flies enter a small chamber sensors detect their movements.  A micro-controller articulates a drawing arm in real time based on the fly’s movements.  When a fly is no longer detected in the chamber the paper scrolls over and the device waits until a new fly enters the chamber to begin another drawing.

I think this really expands the idea of what is art.
