A Surprisingly Special Business Book

One of the best, and most Surprising, business books of the year comes from a most unlikely source–Kanye West.

As I’m sure you all know by now, I read ‘em all, but Kanye’s mini-opus entitled “Thank You and You’re Welcome” is one of 2008’s fave finds, a concise handbook of common sense, common decency and street wisdom.

Like his innovative albums and concerts where he collaborates with other talent for a veritable “one + one = three” equation, Kanye wrote his book with J. Sakiya Sandifer of “Think Think Think and Think Again” fame. In its 50 or so pages, all black with varying styles and colors of neon font, the two offer theories, spout aphorisms and ponder conundrums (conundri?) like:

I wonder…would you rather have 100% from an average person or 10% from someone who is outstanding?

I recently spoke with HipHopStan.com and other than a couple of misprints, I think the final product gives a very good insight of The Thinker Thoughts!!!

HHS: Thank you for calling; it’s an honor to speak to you. I have read your book/blog amongst other items and your though process is amazing, it’s different! You’re on a different level and different zone, which is good. I said to myself wow he is a great thinker, like an old soul.

Sakiya: Yeah I have been told that a lot, growing up. It seems like I‘ve been here before. I don’t know because to me it’s just my thought process. It’s not like something I’m trying to do it is just how I see the world.

HHS: Well tell me a little about yourself and your movement?

Sakiya: I’m Sakiya and I’m on a mission right now to impact the world and spark those trying to create positive changes in their life. It seems like that’s been consistent in my life and in all the things that I’ve done. Like you just said before… I have always thought different. About 4 years ago, I had a premonition that I would be in front of people. Then I started this journey to make sure I was giving something that was not just “sugar water.� To me it would be so easy to come out with these cliché type things to say. I wanted to make sure that my ideas were precise. I truly want to be a spark for those trying to change their lives. This is the main reason on my blog; I don’t try to give my opinion to much because I don’t want to become the people’s deacon. I want to be that spark so they can come up with the answer themselves. I have come to learn as long as you are looking outside of yourself before it happens… it will never come. One of the things that I ask people in my lectures is that if you were to drop your keys in a dark basement; would you go outside in the light to go look for them? You have to be willing to get dirty and dig. That is the only way to be 100% sure that you’ll find your key. That really sums me up! I am a father of 2 girls that I think the world of. I think the universe gave me two daughters because of my love of women and it prevents me from getting lost in the sea of me. They are my shoreline.

The object which ‘landed’ on the grass next to London’s City Hall was emitting smoke and a noise that got the attention of many pedistrians.  The men guarding the “Silver Thing” refusing to explain what exactly was going on created even more curiousity.

It was known later that the Potters Fields Park was hired for a campaign to promote the launch of the Vauxhall Insignia car (sold under the Opel brand outside the UK) as a creative & interesting way to promote their new product. (more…)

Environmental issues in China are largely overlooked at the expense of making money…uhmm, no surprise there!  These thought proking pieces located in Beijing’s Central Business District was a way of taking the subject to the heart of the matter.  Passers by could literally stand between a man with a gun and the animal in a symbolic gesture of defiance.

As an added touch , bullet holes were placed around the animals as if there were on a firing range. (more…)

With a question like that, your mind should be flooded with all types of possibilities.  But before you get totally lost in the land of infinite possibilities, keep in mind this little life lesson that I’ve come to know in a very big way…if there’s no possibility of failure, then the victory is meaningless!!!

Craftsman Aldunin poses in the work area of his Moscow apartment.  His tools include superglue, syringes and toothpicks.  The microscope dates to 1985.  Aldunin takes his inspiration from a famous Russian tale about Levsha – the name means “left-handed man” – a Tula craftsman so skilled he is able to put horseshoes on a flea.  Aldunin’s version features not only the shoes-all of them held in place by three nails-but a saddle and stirrups as well.

Aldunin’s work naturally leads to some frustration. While crafting a miniature rifle, he lost the weapon’s butt after having worked on it for two weeks. “I had a sit-down and a smoke and calmed down,” he said, then decided to start all over again. “You musn’t get into a state or worry. Everything that you feel in your soul is transmitted to your hands.”

WARNING: Before you click play, be sure your mind is open!!!

Many scientists and philosophers are convinced that free will doesn’t exist at all.  They believe everything that happens is determined by what happened before, so our actions are inevitable consequences of the events leading up to the action…and this fact makes it impossible for anyone to do anything that is truly free.

This kind of anti-free will stance stretches back to 18th century philosophy, but the idea has recently been getting much more exposure through popular science books and magazine articles.

So should we worry?

If people come to believe that they don’t have free will, what will the consequences be for moral responsibility?  And if our actions are determined by prior events, then do we have a choice about anything or any responsibility for what we do?

Unfortunately, I can relate to this sceniro all to well…but I’m getting better ever day, so please be patience with me.

With that said, do you think any relationship could survive with that type of direct communication that has no hurtful intentions to them?

Featured above is a patented air bed designed by Daniele Lago. The base of bed is on a metal frame, which is grafted with 4 translucent glass plates and hence makes it appear like a bed suspended in a void.

Even at a small size,  the silhouettes of all the cartoon characters should be recognizable…which in itself is an amazing feat…for the characters, and your brain!

This is becasue our eyes strip down everything we see into its most basic elements on a daily basis without even thinking about it.  Mickey Mouse isn’t a mouse who wears red shorts.  Our mind remembers him as a circle with two smaller circles on top.  Just to visualize, we can dress him up in any colors or attire we desire and nobody would ever mistake him for anyone else.

So outside of Mickey Mouse, how many of the characters can you name?

Mexican design collective NEL have designed Global Warming Rug for Spanish textiles brand Nanimarquina. The rug features a felt polar bear on a small iceberg in a large sea of carpet.

Following the age-old tradition of using rugs as a means for communication and a cultural record, NEL is portraying global warming in a scene that invites us to reflect on our impact on today’s world.

Doesn’t life seem to get easier once your goal is set?

I just found all the different expressions kind of amusing!!!

Perseid meteors streak across the sky in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Nevada.  The meteor display is a result of Earth’s orbit passing through debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle.

I wonder how I would react seeing this in person and not knowing what’s going on?

There was a time when I really feared sharing my ideas because I wasn’t confident enough that I could produce more.  This is why this quote by Howard Aiken really hits home with me.

“Don’t worry about people stealing your ideas.  If your ideas are any good, you’ll have to ram them down people’s throats.”

Good thing I got passed that…and trust, the more you have to fight for it, the more likely it will end up being worth it!!!

This design from the tech-bods at Samsung, the ‘Touch Sight’ deservedly won the Gold Medal in their Communication Tools (concept) category.

Designed specifically for those with impaired vision, the revolutionary camera allows it’s user to take ‘pictures’ of whatever they like, and like a sort of blind-man’s polaroid, it immediately displays the image, not on an LCD screen, but on a raised Braille display sheet on the back of the camera.

Recently I was giving a good friend of mine some advice who seemed to have lost his focus in life.  That conversation (as most do that I’m in) produced yet another “genius in the moment” moment that I would like to share…

You have to stop getting caught up with what other people are doing and stay focused on your lane in life.  Just look at life as if it’s a bowling alley.  It’s better to roll a gutter ball in your lane than a strike in someone else’s!

This is really how I talk in everyday conversations!!!

This TX54 concept is a disposable clock and calender that can be worn on the user’s thumbnail.  The nail clock makes seeing in the dark as easy as pressing down on the end of your thumb. (more…)

I recently had the opportunity to share my thoughts on the Star & Buc Wild Radio Show.  The environment felt very genuine, as within the first five minutes I clearly recognized a fine oiled machine with many parts acting as one, with one goal in mind…GREATNESS!

At the helm was Star, the man who as Wendy Williams would say, “a friend in my head”.  Our overall conversation seemed to have a mutual respect for one another.  Although Star presented his thoughts with a great sense of confidence, I welcomed them because it was a great test to see how much did I really believe in my own.
