always question the questionable…

A northeast Georgia town that unsuccessfully tried for years to close a local strip club finally gave up and purchased it instead…for nearly $1 million!!!

Officials for the town of Lavonia went to court several times to close Café Risque but lawyers for its owner, Jerry Sullivan, successfully argued that nude dancing was a constitutionally protected form of expression.

After Sullivan, 47, died in his sleep in 2006, the club along Interstate 85 continued to operate, but the owner’s death gave town officials a foot in the door to start sale negotiations.

Lavonia’s mayor got a standing ovation when he announced the purchase at a meeting this week. Crews quickly took down the signs advertising the club and burned them in a large bonfire at the strip club site.

Officials have since passed an ordinance banning adult entertainment businesses.

The town officials could have used the money to pay off the bond fund for its water treatment plant upgrade instead of buying the club.

Government spending at its best!!! (please read with sarcasm)

Protect us from ourselves. Misguided and oblivious.
