I think this works because the human mind is often so preoccupied with its past thoughts, that at first it doesn’t recognize something new for what it truly is. (more…)

Environmental issues in China are largely overlooked at the expense of making money…uhmm, no surprise there! These thought proking pieces located in Beijing’s Central Business District was a way of taking the subject to the heart of the matter. Passers by could literally stand between a man with a gun and the animal in a symbolic gesture of defiance.
As an added touch , bullet holes were placed around the animals as if there were on a firing range. (more…)

Craftsman Aldunin poses in the work area of his Moscow apartment. His tools include superglue, syringes and toothpicks. The microscope dates to 1985. Aldunin takes his inspiration from a famous Russian tale about Levsha – the name means “left-handed man” – a Tula craftsman so skilled he is able to put horseshoes on a flea. Aldunin’s version features not only the shoes-all of them held in place by three nails-but a saddle and stirrups as well.
Aldunin’s work naturally leads to some frustration. While crafting a miniature rifle, he lost the weapon’s butt after having worked on it for two weeks. “I had a sit-down and a smoke and calmed down,” he said, then decided to start all over again. “You musn’t get into a state or worry. Everything that you feel in your soul is transmitted to your hands.”
CARAVAN
Who says you can’t put a camel through the eye of a needle? Aldunin has fit seven through this one. The artist works between the beats of his heart, in order to keep his hands perfectly still. (more…)

Featured above is a patented air bed designed by Daniele Lago. The base of bed is on a metal frame, which is grafted with 4 translucent glass plates and hence makes it appear like a bed suspended in a void.
What is more sensuous about the bed is the fact that it flaunts a floating mattress, which is eerie and light. The adaptable height is monitored by air that merely rotates its supporting glass rectangles. (more…)

Even at a small size,  the silhouettes of all the cartoon characters should be recognizable…which in itself is an amazing feat…for the characters, and your brain!
This is becasue our eyes strip down everything we see into its most basic elements on a daily basis without even thinking about it. Mickey Mouse isn’t a mouse who wears red shorts. Our mind remembers him as a circle with two smaller circles on top. Just to visualize, we can dress him up in any colors or attire we desire and nobody would ever mistake him for anyone else.
So outside of Mickey Mouse, how many of the characters can you name?

Mexican design collective NEL have designed Global Warming Rug for Spanish textiles brand Nanimarquina. The rug features a felt polar bear on a small iceberg in a large sea of carpet.
Following the age-old tradition of using rugs as a means for communication and a cultural record, NEL is portraying global warming in a scene that invites us to reflect on our impact on today’s world.

Perseid meteors streak across the sky in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Nevada. The meteor display is a result of Earth’s orbit passing through debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle.
I wonder how I would react seeing this in person and not knowing what’s going on?

Large scale painter, Ron English took his presidential image of Barack Obama and intermixed it with Abe Lincoln. The oversized, newly colorized outdoor versions were installed as part of Gallery XIV’s ‘a politic exhibit held in Boston.
Now my question is…what does this artistic expression evoke in you???

This is one of the best billboards that I’ve seen in a while. It’s the simplicity of the concept that really appeals to me…especially in this time of breakthrough technologies.
And of course I wish I would’ve come up with it!!!

Alexey Titarenko’s “City of Shadows” is a series of haunting, long-exposure shots of street-scenes in St. Petersburg, Russia.Â
The long exposure-times turn the people in the shots into ghosts and suggestions of motion.

First let me say, what a movie!!! Entertaining…YES! Did it make much sense to me…not so much!
These are the times when I really think my thought process leans more towards being a liability than an asset. As I sat in the crowded movie theater, I began to be just as intrigued in the crowd’s reaction as the actual movie itself. I couldn’t understand for the life of me why I was the only one that seemed to be bothered by some of the premises being shown. American artist Carole A. Feuerman’s life-like sculpture entitled Survival of Serena.
Note…the little girl in the picture is real and I can’t blame her for wanting to touch it. I never understood artist who will spend a great amount of time in creating something to look as realistic as possible and then not wanting people to touch it.   Personally, I can get just as much or even more sensation from feeling something…how about you?

I encourage all to see this movie.Â
I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t seen yet so I will be holding back my two cents until Monday, July 14, 2008. For those who have seen it, please hold your comments as well until Monday…nobody likes a party pooper!
Ooh wee…Monday can’t get here quick enough!!!

This is crazy…and it was made by a single person!!!
Jim Denevan made the world’s largest freehand drawing on a dry lake in Nevada. How big is it? Three mile across, which took 100 miles of walking to draw the pattern.
“It is really really big. My first attempt at a place so large. I think it represents about seven or eight days of walking”, says Devevan.
Even though esthetically it’s a welcome addition to the landscape, it is also a sort of a transient mark-like a cloud, or a river-bed. Immense in its scope, and lasting only a moment in the large scale of things. (more…)

I’m floored by this floor pattern designed by Spanish artist Juan Munoz at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.  The love the way that when you look at a specific color from the bottom to top, the shapes tends to shift.

I’m not sure who created this ad, but I think it was an advertising company named Kaizen.
I LOVE UNEXPECTED GROWTH MOMENTS!!!
I thought it was really dope when I discovered that Kaizen is also the name of a Japanese philosophy that focuses on continuous improvement throughout all aspects of life.

This art work on the facade of the Tate Modern in London really caught me off guard. I must admit that my first thought was WTF! Fortunately I gave it a second look. I found myself lost in thinking… uhmm, and why did I have that first thought in the first place?

Flogos are taking your marketing to the skies, and then some. It’ll shape your logotype into a “cloudy” mixture of soap-based foam and helium – and send it off to drift for miles, as high as 6 kilometers up.
Any form can be made (of any color) and almost any specified location covered. The company seems to maintain that “flogo” shapes are environmentally friendly (they just evaporate after a while, and airplanes will fly through them like through any cloud.

This transparent toaster allows you to see the bread while it is toasting so you’re never surprised by toast that comes out too dark. This idea is based on a transparent heating glass technology. Although the glass does not currently get hot enough to toast bread, the vendor explained with some R&D this application may be possible. The concept was developed by the Inventables Concept Studio.
I love when design is merged with innovation!!!

This is a future cell phone concept developed at Inventables. The concept was inspired by the e-paper developed by Mag-Ink and the Popout Map. The map uses origami paper folding technique to expand and collapse automatically as it is opened and closed. This concept addresses the need for larger displays on cell phones without sacrificing a small form factor.

Forever was FOREVER,
Time is all I had,
And my only wish was just for a kiss,
AND NOW
Forever feels like it comes tomorrow,
My time is spent before I get it,
AND JUST GETTING A KISS only gets me pissed!

The artist in me found this video just freaking inspirational!!! I couldn’t help but love how this creative expression invokes the masses to think…and better yet, to reveal their thoughts! All types of concepts came to me while watching!

I always embrace my moments of doubts (and trust me, I have many) because it often produces something greater.
Instead of allowing doubt to stop you, look at it more as a sign that you have more to discover.
A quote by Francis Ford Coppola to ponder…
“I don’t think there’s any artist of any value who doesn’t doubt what they’re doing.”

I’ve been known to be a little self-centered as well as an extremist at times, but this is even too much for me. This had to come from the someone who was tired of having the covers snatched off in the middle of the night.
It funny how my self-centeredness formed that opinion of this picture. I say that because the romantic in me sees an expression of someone who really likes to snuggle!

I wonder if this was done by the surviving spouse to express her infinite love? Or was this done by some freaky bastard who just wanted an adoring naked woman over him forever ever…ever…ever?!
In any case, I do know it’s the best looking tombstone that I’ve ever seen!

WORLDLY VIEW
I did this art piece to reflect how I see the world in regards of getting my ideas out. Throughout my journey, I’ve always faced a faceless opposition to me being me.  I define faceless opposition as those who will bring opposing energy into your life (whether it be family, friends, or colleagues) but are never bold enough to do it upfront. This was my way of acknowledging that energy source which I think is a great way to prevent getting caught up in it.

DESTINY’S HEART
This piece was done about three years ago. I wanted to create an artistic expression that represented how my heart is torn due to sacrifices made while reaching towards my destiny.  Unfortunatley there is no way around it. It’s just a part of the journey that one has to learn how to endure. Â
Although those who seek greatness suffer greatly…know that the greater the difficulty, the greater the joy is in conquering it.

I participated in a couple of the editing sessions for this one, so I guess it’s no surprise that I really like how it turned out. Once again, Kanye and Hype tapped into their genius creating another instant classic video that will soon be the new standard!
P.S. – Hype, thanks again for sharing the pics…and you know which ones!
