These words give me yet another reason to do what I am meant to do!!!

“Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking.  There is an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions.  Nothing pains some people more than having to think.”

“The life of man is the life of a moving being, and it would not be sufficient for him to develop body alone.  A plant is rooted: it stays in one place and cannot move.  It would be very surprising, therefore, to discover that a plant had a mind; or at least a mind in any sense which we could comprehend.  If a plant could foresee or project consequences, (more…)

a fellow thinker thought’s on the stupid…do you agree???

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

TheThinkMovement.com by j. sakiya sandifer

“Stupid people like to mislead themselves that while they may not be clever, they were at least able to compensate with feelings and insights denied to the intellectual.  It was precisely this kind of false belief that made stupid people so stupid.  The truth was the clever people had infinitely more resources from which to make the leaps of connection that the world called intuition.  What was ‘intelligence’ after all, but the ability to read into things?”

I must admit that disgust was my first reaction after seeing this, but then I thought about it a little more and ask myself…why am I so disgusted?  Was my initial reaction solely due to it being a whole chicken?  It’s not like there aren’t any canned meats in the market place already.

I personally think that this is just more of the same type of catering to a culture who will stand in front of  a microwave and say hurry up!!!

the four biggest ‘green’ marketing scams

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

TheThinkMovement.com by j. sakiya sandifer

In greenwashing, as in life, there are seven sins. There’s the sin of the hidden trade-off, for example, the sin of vagueness, and the sin of no proof. So says sinsofgreenwashing.org, which takes on companies that offer seemingly green benefits — often at a hefty price tag — with little results. As the green trend continues, companies in almost every industry vie for a piece of the green market, even the embattled General Motors has taken a chance on its own green product initiative.

But as the field of green products grows, so does the number of impostors. The following is a list of some of the most perplexing green products out there-and an assessment of just how scammy they might be:   (more…)

another key to happiness

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

TheThinkMovement.com by j. sakiya sandifer

In “Thank You And You’re Welcome”, a couple of theories of how to obtain happiness was presented.  One of which was “2 keys 2 happiness”.  The first key is being able to tolerate things that make you unhappy.  The second key is being able to change things to make you happy.

I now present a third…being mentally loyal to oneself.  And that loyalty is defined by never confessing to believe in something that you don’t believe.  Having this discipline in your life will give you that extra boost needed during the down times…and trust me, there will be down times when chasing your dreams!!!

should being fat cost you more to fly???

TheThinkMovement.com by j. sakiya sandifer

I found this article by fellow thinker Mike LaBossiere quite intriguing…

In a somewhat controversial move, some US airlines have implemented a policy of charging large passengers extra. The gist of the policy is that if someone cannot fit comfortably in a normal seat, they will be required to purchase a second seat or upgrade to business class.

While some have accused the airlines of simply trying a new scheme to make money, the airlines have defended this policy by asserting that large passengers infringe on the comfort of other passengers and point to various complaints made by passengers about this problem. (more…)

a fellow thinker’s thoughts on loving a woman

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

TheThinkMovement.com by j. sakiya sandifer

“You may not be her first, her last, or her only.  She loved before she may love again.  But if she loves you now, what else matters?  She’s not perfect – you aren’t either, and the two of you may never be perfect together but if she can make you laugh, cause you to think twice, and admit to being human and making mistakes, hold onto her and give her the most you can.  She may not be thinking about you every second of the day, but she will give you a part of her that she knows you can break – her heart.  So don’t hurt her, don’t change her, don’t analyze and don’t expect more than she can give.  Smile when she makes you happy, let her know when she makes you mad, and miss her when she’s not there.”

- Bob Marley

beautiful words by a fellow thinker

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

TheThinkMovement.com by j. sakiya sandifer

“Life is tragically simply because the earth turns and the sun inexorably rises and sets, and one day, for each of us, the sun will go down for the last, last time. Perhaps the whole root of our trouble, the human trouble, is that we will sacrifice all the beauty of our lives, will imprison ourselves in totems, taboos, crosses, blood sacrifices, steeples, mosques, races, armies, flags, nations, in order to deny the fact of death, which is the only fact we have.”

A LISTERN’S FEEDBACK FROM SHOW #3
Let me preface the following critique by saying that you two sound great on air.  It seemed like a relaxed conversation that keeps the listeners engaged.

When Sakiya explained that schools should be run like a business, it struck a nerve.  Based on my research on this subject, I am fundamentally against any notion that a school or school system should be run like a business.  No. Teachers as salespersons.  No. Students as buyers.  No.  When students don’t perform (buy products), then it is the fault of the teacher (salesperson). No. This theory is flawed.

Let me break it down. (more…)
