I think it depends on the situation, and the person involved...in some cases it's better to be supportive, things that ain't that important, but sometimes you have to be honest to prevent the other person from getting hurt or making a fool of him/herself.

Take for instance some people on "idol" they really get hurt when the jury tells them they can't sing (and some really make a fool of themselves). And they don't understand it, because everybody close to them told that he or she could sing very beautiful (they were being supportive). Maybe a stupid example:) but it was the first thing that i thought about...

It's like choosing between air and water. Being supportive will get someone through a time where they are going through something difficult, but only honesty can give people the insight they need on how to improve themselves or adjust for their shortcomings...I guess

Honesty makes you feel better because you know that you did the right thing by not sugar coating the situation in which the perosn might find themselves in be it good or bad. Being Supportive helps the person feel valid on their mistake (assuming it is a mistake) but the minute it goes wrong they say you should have been honest with them... So be honest if you want to be at peace with yourself and supportive if you fear what you might say could be taking out of context.
