Though it is a bit nieve, he just believed that the stranger in need of help wouldn't wrong him. The truth is, people ARE inherently good natured. We just think otherwise because of what Gerbner calls Mean World Syndrome created by the mass media. So maybe he WAS thinking. But who knows?!
